LAND|SLIDE Artist Talks
Feb 26, 2014, 3:30pm-5pm
Sensorium, Centre for Digital Arts and Technology Research presents a series of public talks by artists featured in the massive public art exhibition LAND|SLIDE: Possible Futures, curated by Professor Janine Marchessault, director of Sensorium.
Thirty-five artists were commissioned to reimagine the historical and ecological fabric of the City of Markham, Ontario, once a small agricultural village and now a fast-growing, ethnically diverse urban centre bordering Toronto. The artists were asked to explore themes of multiculturalism, sustainability and community in their work.
LAND|SLIDE was held at the Markham Museum in Markham (September 21-October 14, 2013) and the Canadian Pavilion at the Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture - Hong Kong and Shenzhen, China (December 14, 2013-February 28, 2014).
In the second of three public talks, the following artists will present and discuss their creative experiments developed for LAND|SLIDE:
Ali Kazimi - filmmaker and professor of production, Department of Film, Faculty of Fine Arts, York University
Julie Nagam - artist, activist, professor of indigenous, cultural and post-colonial theory, OCAD U
