CHRY 105.5 FM Presents YorkFETE
Mar 6, 2014, 7am-3pm
Experience carnival culture with your campus radio station, CHRY 105.5 FM. On Thursday, March 6, the Student Centre will be transformed into the biggest dance party in the city, with your favourite CHRY DJs playing the best soca tunes for this year’s carnival season. There will be live performances, free socacize classes, costume displays, party giveaways and more. And who will win the title of YorkFETE? For our grand finale, your fellow student clubs will be pitted against each other in an epic dance-off to win the chance to perform at Dr. Jay’s The Return Fete on Saturday, March 15 at the Koolhaus.
Live remote broadcast from 7 to 10am:
Island Xplosion with Neddy Nyce, Presto and Doc.
Free Socacize demonstration at 9am and noon:
Ayanna Rivears’ socasize demonstrations will energize your body and invigorate your soul. Socacize is an exhilarating Caribbean workout that blends impact aerobics with dance movements to give you a session that’s both fun and fitness-focused.
Featured performances from noon to 3pm:
Members of the Gimmie One Riddim cast will be performing a part of this season’s production on the YorkFETE stage. The show, which runs March 26 to 29 at the Harbourfront Centre, celebrates the heart and soul of Jamaican culture – music and dance.
World-renowned dance group Diva Diverse incorporates a range of dance styles, vibrant costumes and powerful female energy into their show. They’re generously donating a week of unlimited dance sessions to our YorkFETE dance champions.
The YorkFETE dance-off will feature costumes from four incredible mas camps: Toronto Revellers, D’Regulars Arts & Cultural Club, Carnival Revolution and Caribana Arts Group.
Thanks to our sponsor Zipcar, which will be giving away an annual membership to one lucky YorkFETE attendee.
