Annabelle Chvostek: 'Creating Narrative, Politics and Music'

Mar 4, 2014, 2:30pm-4:30pm

This talk by Juno-nominated Canadian musician Annabelle Chvostek will reflect upon her experience of writing and performing political music. The talk will touch upon the unique potential of combining music and words. Songs can act as a vehicle for dialogue as well as a way of affirming and supporting action and resistance within politicized, or potentially politicized, individuals and groups.

“My work that is politicized has emerged out of a sense of urgency," says Chvostek."It has been a way of processing social and political events that have had a significant impact on me. Despite all of the political discussions that a medium like the Internet enables, there is something that I think is far more powerful in these face-to-face exchanges that are fuelled by the emotional engagement that music demands.”

Chvostek will play several of her songs and there will also be ample time for questions from the audience.
