"The Balance Sheet of War: The Costs and Benefits to Canada from a 12-Year Odyssey in Afghanistan"
This month marks the end of 12 years of Canadian military involvement in Afghanistan, as remaining Canadian Armed Forces soldiers withdraw from the country over the coming days. This has been the most significant Canadian military commitment since the Korean War. The effects of Canada's involvement in Afghanistan on the Canadian Armed Forces, on our institutions of government, on our politics and on Canadian society are profound. This presentation will attempt to elucidate what the post 9-11 Afghan War has meant for Canada.
Speaker / Conférencier: Eugene Lang, BMO Visiting Fellow, former chief of staff to two ministers of national defence and co-author (with Janice Stein) of the award-winning book The Unexpected War: Canada in Kandahar (Penguin, 2007).
