Security Certificates and the Politics of Exception

The Department of Equity Studies class "Democracy, the State and Freedom of Expression" is hosting a panel discussion with Mohammad Mahjoub and Mac Scott. Mahjoub, who has been held on a security certificate since 2000, will speak about his experiences of detention over the past 14 years. Mac Scott, a lawyer with Carranza LLP, will discuss the recent Supreme Court of Canada ruling on the constitutionality of security certificates and its impact on the lives of those who are being held.
