Strategic Initiatives


The number of strategic initiatives have recently been announced by the CIHR. A hard copy of any of these research funding opportunities can be obtained from ORA, or on CIHR's Web site www.cihr.ca . The initiatives are from the Institute of Aboriginal Peoples' Health (Child and Youth Health, Diabetes, HIV/AIDS, Improving Access to Appropriate Health Services for Marginalized Groups, Innovative Projects, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and Fetal Alcohol Effect, Injuries and Accidents, Aboriginal Capacity and Developmental Research Environments), the Institute of Gender and Health (New Perspectives on Gender and Health, Improving Access to Appropriate Health Services for Marginalized Groups, Celera Genome Database Grant* (note: deadline is May 1), Clinical Investigatorship Award, Jessie Boyd & Charles Scriver MD/PhD Studentship Award), Institute of Health Services and Policy Research (Financing Health Care in the Face of Changing Public Expectations, Improving Access to Appropriate Health Services for Marginalized Groups), Institute of Infection and Immunity (HIV/ AIDS), Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes (Diabetes Surveillance System Grant, Diabetes)

Living Legacy Trust

Science-related Programs in Forestry, Ecology, and Fish and Wildlife


This fund supports projects that promise to bring economic, social and recreational benefits to the people of Ontario and serve as models of excellence in forestry, fish, and wildlife practices. There are three funding programs available through this opportunity: Forest Science Data Collection and Research, Scientific Data on Fish and Wildlife, and Ecological Approach to Fish and Wildlife Management.

NSERC

Research Partnerships Program


ORA would like to remind science faculty members of the upcoming deadline for letters of intent to NSERC's Research Partnerships Program. This program funds large-scale, complex research proposals that involve multi-sectorial collaborations on a common research theme and that demonstrate the added advantages of a networking approach. A management structure is required to direct, manage and integrate the activities of the network. Research Networks normally require in excess of $500,000 annually from NSERC. Local, regional or national networks are eligible.

Deadline: June 1 (for letter of intent)


Lindbergh (Charles A. and Anne Morrow) Foundation

Lindbergh Grants


The foundation makes up to $10,580 US available to support researchers from a wide spectrum of disciplines who further the Lindberghs' vision of a balance between the advance of technology and the preservation of the natural/human environment. Grants are made in the categories of: agriculture; aviation/aerospace; conservation of natural resources; education; exploration; health; and waste minimization and management.

The Office of Research Administration (ORA) would like to remind faculty members of these research opportunities with upcoming deadlines. Deadlines listed are those of the granting agencies. Applications for external sources of funding (i.e., outside York) must be submitted to ORA before forwarding them to the agencies. To assist in meeting these deadlines, it is recommended that applications be submitted to ORA one to two weeks prior to the deadline dates.
