Health Canada

Health Policy Research Program


Health Canada will make available up to $150,000 to fund a workshop to develop the first phase of a First Nations and Inuit health policy research framework. The intent of this workshop is to outline the current knowledge, identity the knowledge gaps across these health domain areas, develop research questions that would address these knowledge gaps, develop appropriate methodologies for addressing the research questions.

Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)

Institute of Genetics Short-Term Exchange Grants


The CIHR's Institute of Genetics has made available up to $11,000 to provide flexible funds to health researchers to advance knowledge in areas of research in any area of biochemistry or genetics, or related to the ethical, legal and psychological issues of genetics research. Types of programs that can be funded include short sabbaticals for independent investigators in a field outside of their current area of expertise, exchange programs that promote a cross-disciplinary training, environment (e.g. a basic scientist in a clinical lab, clinician in the bioethics centre etc.), short visits to learn new technologies, to gain expertise in technologies that will further research in the home lab.

Canadian Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths

Dr. Sydney Segal Research Grant


Up to $35,000 is available to support research in any discipline (e.g. nursing, medicine, epidemiology, psychology, biology, sociology etc.) which is concerned with the causes, effects, and/or prevention of "Sudden Infant Death Syndrome".

Max Bell Foundation

Grants


The Max Bell Foundation supports projects which educate Canadians about public policy alternatives. Specifically, the following program areas reflect the Foundation's mission and strategic priority: health, education and communication.

University of Calgary- Gorbachev Foundation

Joint Trust Fund


Funding is available to support research that will promote policy and programming which adds to the transformation of Russian society and state public policy. Its specific purpose is to facilitate practical solutions to problems in critical areas of public policy with a special interest in, but not limited to, the design and implementation of essential social service projects. Proposals may be funded up to $130,000 for three-year research programs.

Applications for external sources of funding (i.e., outside York) must be submitted to ORA before forwarding them to the agencies. To assist in meeting these deadlines, it is recommended that applications be submitted to ORA one to two weeks prior to the deadline dates.
