Centre Court WOOD, STONE AND STEEL HONOUR YORK DONORS

NEED DIRECTIONS around campus? Stop by York's newest building, the York Honour Court and Information Centre.

Unveiled this summer, the Court is funded entirely by private donations, including a leadership gift from Seymour Schulich. The building is designed to be a tribute to the University's benefactors and be a meeting place for visitors.

Its striking design enhances the University's existing architecture and serves as an addition to York's front door, Vari Hall and the Harry W. Arthurs Common.

In the pavilion wall are five different types of granite blocks that mark the cumulative gifts of donors since York's founding in 1959 according to each category of donor.

The Information Centre provides visitors with view maps of the University, a place where they can read and pick up copies of University publications, and access to York information via a touch-screen monitor.

The building design is by Stephen Teeple and Associates whose recent honours include two Governor General's awards for architecture, three Canadian Architect Awards of Excellence and an American Institute of Architecture award.

Students (left to right) Nastassia Subban, Melinda Kurniawan, Ewan Brand and Vanessa Cornish admire York's newest building.
