Peter Cosentino
DIAMONDS ARE A GUY'S BEST FRIEND

AS MARKETING director for the Toronto Blue Jays, Peter Cosentino's come a long way from his early days promoting sporting events like the world cup trampoline competition held in Regina.

Actually, Cosentino seems to have jumped the gun on his sports career early on. He tells the story of his graduation day this way: "Everyone was standing around in their robes dreaming about their futures. But I had to get through the ceremonies and head straight for Pearson." Cosentino was en route to Halifax's Mic Mac Mall to promote the Crystal Lite Aerobic Championships for Circa Sports.

At York, Cosentino enriched his general BA('87) with a certificate in sports administration. As part of his degree requirement he had to do a field placement with a relevant sports organization. It was through this placement that Cosentino got the job with Circa Sports Promotions which began his career in sports marketing.

Playing for the varsity football team was an excellent training ground for business, he says. "You're on a team and you've got to work together towards the common goal. No one person can take sole credit for the outcome." Says Consentino:"Marketing a sports team is not like marketing a product. If it's soup, the soup doesn't change. But a team is in constant motion. Sometimes it's flying high and the fans are out in full force...other times you've got to work extra hard to keep the house full."
