Wine and dine gala to raise funds for student financial assistance

    Thousands of dollars for financial assistance for York University/Faculty of Arts students are expected to be raised at this first-ever Wine and Dine Gala, planned for Friday, March 21, 6 p.m. at the Hollywood Princess Banquet and Convention Centre (Hwy. 7 between Keele and Jane Streets).

    In keeping with York University's commitment to accessible higher education, the proceeds from this event will benefit student assistance. As such, the Ontario government -- through the Ontario Student Assistance Trust Fund -- will match, dollar for dollar, the funds raised at this event.

    In mid-January tickets can be purchased from: Liliana Guadagnoli (ext. 33089 or email french1@yorku.ca and/or Marie Milani (ext. 33966 or email marie.milani@mathstat.yorku.ca. The cost of the tickets will be $55, and a receipt for income tax purposes will be issued for the applicable portion of the ticket price.

    Evening highlights to include:

  • champagne reception (hors d'oeuvres)
  • a five-course dinner -- finished off with Belgian truffles and Ice Wine
  • each course matched with a complementary wine
  • wine-tasting conducted by one of North America's leading wine educators -- Andrew Sharp -- who established Vintage House in 1977, one of this continent's first and most successful private wine schools
  • cash bar (for those who are not wine drinkers)
  • entertainment provided by Faculty of Fine Arts students

    • trio (cello, piano, violin)
    • jazz group
  • grand door prizes
