Our Readers Report
OUR PUBLISHER GETS THE MESSAGE

What do Profiles readers think of their magazine?

To find out, York's Institute for Social Research conducted initial focus groups, then statistically valid telephone and mail surveys of randomly sampled alumni.

SOME HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Alumni surveyed felt the magazine helped them maintain ties to the University. Eighty-two per cent said Profiles compared either "very" or "somewhat favourably" with other alumni magazines they had seen.

  • News about accomplishments at York were rated highest, followed closely by news about "your department/Faculty/college". Least favourite sections included "articles on alumni and friends who give to the University".

  • While we now publish only twice a year, most alumni said they would prefer quarterly. Readers wanted a print edition (55%) over online (only 12%) versions of the magazine. A majority said they read every issue or almost every issue (53% said they spend up to an hour or longer reading Profiles.

  • 67% of alumni worked full-time; 30% had annual household incomes over $100,000.
  • Profiles would like to thank all those who responded to our survey.
