YORK'S $100 MILLION CAMPAIGN WRAP-UP WAS A GALA AFFAIR
|
York is feeling like a 100 million bucks these days. Well, actually a little more than that - $108 million to be exact. That's the final figure for York's National Campaign which drew to a close December 1998. And with $25 million in matching funds under the OSOTF program, the campaign's grand total for funds raised was $133 million.
The campaign officially wrapped up with a black tie gala dinner and celebration at the Design Exchange on Bay Street, December 8.
York University President Lorna R. Marsden and Campaign Co-Chairs John Bankes and Tim Price were on hand to officially cap off the campaign by placing the last volume on a 12-foot high stack of books representing key contributions. (Campaign Co-Chair Margot Franssen was ill and unable to attend.)
"In fewer than four decades [York celebrates its 40th anniversary officially on March 26,1999] York has earned a national and international reputation for innovative research and programming, and award-winning teaching," said Marsden. "I want to thank everyone inside and outside the community who contributed so generously, especially the Campaign Co-Chairs."
