Students today want a degree and a diploma

Thanks to an innovative agreement between York University and Seneca College, students are now able to earn both a Seneca diploma and a York Bachelor of Arts degree in just three years. The trend-setting arrangement was signed and sealed in January.

Students begin by taking two semesters of courses at Seneca, then apply to enter the joint program. Acceptance is based on academic merit. Students then take a summer course at York, followed by a second year at Seneca during which time they also take a York course taught at the Seneca campus. After the second Seneca year, students take another York summer course and then spend their third and final year of the joint program entirely at York.

"We recognize there's more than one way to get to university," said York President Dr. Lorna Marsden. "Students are demanding flexibility and choice in outstanding academic programs, and that's what this program offers." Such partnerships are the way of the future, she said.
