Profiles    Claire Meldrum is this year's winner of the Harry W. Arthurs Alumni Entrance Scholarship. Meldrum applied for admission with an average of 94.6 per cent. The York Alumni Association created the award to honour president emeritus Harry Arthurs, and to recognize an outstanding student who is the child or grandchild of an York alumnus.

As well as being an outstanding scholar, Meldrum has also been very active in her community of Grimsby, Ont., through involvement in Drama, and pledge drives, to walk-a-thons, community volunteering at the local benevolent society, and coaching junior boys rowing at a local rowing club in St.Catherines.

"I found it a real challenge last year to keep up my community involvement, but I managed," says Meldrum. "The importance of my final year in high school with the extra work load of university application and preparing for my Royal Conservatory Grade 9 piano exam, made a daily planner a lifeline and a necessity!"

Meldrum's favourite subject is History, but she says she wants to become a screenwriter and plans to major in Film & Video in the Faculty of Fine Arts.
