Leaders-In-Training Program

This summer, campers who are 13/14 years of age will have the opportunity to participate in the Leaders-In-Training Program. This program will provide them with some “hands-on” experience with working in a camp setting, and with planning some fun activities for the younger campers. Together, with the Camp Specialist – Leadership Program, campers in this program will develop and use their leadership skills through mentoring younger campers and working in a team-environment with staff.

Many of our campers express interest in becoming volunteers with the York Youth Connection Summer Camp, with the hope of working at YYC Summer Camp or another camp in the future. The Leaders-In-Training Program will provide these youth with a “head start” before they volunteer or become employed.

The Leaders-In-Training Program will be scheduled in the afternoon, which enables the campers to participate in regular morning camp activities. Following the “leadership period” each day, campers will engage in afternoon programming.

At the end of each session, campers in the Leaders-In-Training Program will receive a Certificate of Completion (which looks great on their resume).
