Camp Hours

YYC operates 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays.

We ask parents/guardians to respect the hours of the camp to ensure campers fully participate in all activities.
Tardiness creates problems for staff and interrupts the curriculum, and camp staff/management will discuss incidents
with parents/guardians as appropriate.

Campers may be de-registered from camp after two days of late arrival or absence in any session, after discussing each incident with the camper’s parent/guardian.

Before-care and After-care

Before-care is available at no additional cost, beginning at 8am.

After-care is available for an additional $10 per week, until 5:30pm.

Families requiring before- or after-care must indicate this on their Registration Form. Children not picked up on time will be charged a fee of $1/minute. Additionally, if you have not already paid for after-care and collect your child after 4:30pm twice in one week, you will be billed for a week’s after-care.

Camper Drop-off and Pick-up

Campers ages 10 and younger must have adult supervision at all times during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. Children 11 and older can arrive and leave camp unescorted only with parent/guardian consent on the camper release form, which is in your Camper Package.

Only the adults or guardians listed on the camper release form will be allowed to pick up a camper. Prior to releasing a camper, YYC staff may ask the adult to present photo ID.

Allergies and Food Policy

Due to the seriousness of peanut allergies, the YYC has adopted a no-nut food policy. Parents/caregivers are requested to adhere to the policy for the safety of all campers. Products which typically contain peanuts include peanut butter, granola snacks, peanut sauce, and others. If in doubt, keep it out of your child’s lunch and snacks.

At the start of each session, YYC staff will contact parents with other known camper allergies.  We expect parents to cooperate in eliminating these allergens from their child’s lunch and snacks.

If your child has a serious allergy, please inform the camp office by email or at 416-736-5669. Also, include this information in the Health/Medical section of the Camper Package.

Swimming Information

All campers may participate in swimming at York University's Tait McKenzie Pool where qualified lifeguards and YYC staff supervise swimming activities. Swimming is primarily recreational (free swim and recreational water games) and each camper who wishes to swim must participate in a swim test at the beginning of each session to test his/her ability. Swimmers unable to pass the deep end test will be required to remain in the shallow end. Younger campers with limited or no swimming ability may be asked to wear a life jacket (provided). Parents of children who are not permitted to swim because of medical and other extenuating circumstances must inform the camp office by email or at 416-736-5669.

The YYC has integrated "Swim to Survive" into its swim activities. This program was introduced at the YYC in 2009, and offers campers with little or no swimming experience the opportunity to learn basic swim skills and develop an understanding of water safety.

Campers not wishing to swim will be provided other activities.

Inclusion statement

YYC is an inclusive, positive and safe space for our campers and our staff. Themes of inclusion and diversity are integrated into YYC curriculum. Behaviour on the part of any member of our camp that violates the spirit of this program will not be tolerated. If your child shares any concerns with you, please let us know right away. The safety and confidence of every camper is our first priority.

Our Staff

YYC senior staff are upper year post-secondary and/or graduate students with training and experience in program planning and working with children and youth.

All other YYC staff are post-secondary students who bring enthusiasm and knowledge in a specific program area (e.g. art and design, health and fitness) and have experience working with children and youth.

Volunteers are young leaders who have been trained and enjoy working with diverse children and youth.

All YYC staff hold current First Aid certification and have been appropriately screened.
