Description<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The AIF project \u201cMedical History and Humanities in Transnational Context\u201d will develop a new, pan-Faculty undergraduate certificate in Medical History and Humanities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Medical History and Humanities (MHH) is a well-established field of scholarship. A range of allied health professions \u2013 including nursing, medicine, physiotherapy and dietetics \u2013 view MHH as a vehicle through which health care providers can \u201chumanize\u201d their practice. Indeed, as technical advances seem to create greater and greater distance between provider and patient, health professionals are expected to develop their capacities of \u201ccompassionate healing\u201d by better understanding the cultural, ethical, and interpersonal contexts in which they deliver health care. A MHH certificate will permit aspiring health professionals and undergraduate students from a range of disciplines to explore how literature, philosophy, history, and cultural studies have represented and defined \u201chumanist\u201d care across time and place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
