The Scholars’ Hub events are done in partnership with Markham Public Library, Vaughan Public Library and Aurora Public Library. What really is a meritocracy and why is it important to us? Is the concept as clear-cut as it is made out to be? Does it influence our current epidemic of anxiety? Keshav Krishnamurty will examine why society is stuck to meritocracy and whether it may threaten an equitable and democratic society.

Focusing on her curatorial projects and research in the Toronto suburb of Markham, York assistant professor Marissa Largo discusses the potential of aesthetics to show us other ways of being in the world that consider racial, class, gender, and sexual difference with an ethic of care.
