{"id":8690,"date":"2016-04-04T08:24:08","date_gmt":"2016-04-04T12:24:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/advancement.yorku.ca\/?p=8690"},"modified":"2016-04-04T08:24:08","modified_gmt":"2016-04-04T12:24:08","slug":"online-knowledge-hub-launches-to-support-youth-facing-barriers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/alumniandfriends\/2016\/04\/online-knowledge-hub-launches-to-support-youth-facing-barriers\/","title":{"rendered":"Online knowledge hub launches to support youth facing barriers"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"npostinfo\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"npostcontent\">\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.exchange.youthrex.com\/about-youthrex\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">YouthREX<\/a> at York U\u2019s School of Social Work has created an online hub for sharing information and ideas to help break barriers unique to marginalized youth.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/yfile.news.yorku.ca\/files\/2016\/04\/youthrex.jpg\" alt=\"youthrex\" \/>The <a href=\"http:\/\/exchange.youthrex.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">eXchange for Youth Work<\/a> launched March 31 and will facilitate youth workers, youth and all who have a vested interest in youth well-being. Users can search for and share information \u2013 including academic research and resources rooted in both professional practice and personal experiences \u2013 in this online space. The initiative is a combined effort to break the many barriers faced by Aboriginal, newcomer, racialized, disabled and LGBTTQ youth and those with special needs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe eXchange is an extension of YouthREX\u2019s efforts and commitment to enhance youth well-being and to support grassroots youth workers,\u201d said Professor Uzo Anucha, provincial academic director of YouthREX. \u201cIt will help to keep them abreast of the latest in research, promising practices and news related to their work.\u201d<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 321px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/yfile.news.yorku.ca\/files\/2014\/12\/Uzo-Anucha.jpg\" alt=\"Uzo Anucha\" width=\"311\" height=\"427\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Uzo Anucha<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The eXchange includes a searchable content library of more than 500 curated and YouthREX-created resources in several categories, offering study reports, summaries of academic literature and toolkits, to strengthen youth work.<\/p>\n<p>For example, the youth program evaluation toolkit includes tools and templates with step-by-step actions structured around YouthREX\u2019s own evaluation framework.<\/p>\n<p>YouthREX is funded through the Province of Ontario\u2019s Ontario Youth Action Plan, which is designed to the address the root causes of youth violence while providing community support where it is needed most.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re very proud of the innovative work the Youth Research &amp; Evaluation eXchange is accomplishing for Ontario\u2019s young people and the youth sector,\u201d said Tracy MacCharles, minister of Children and Youth Services. \u201cBy supporting projects like YouthREX, we\u2019re sharing tried-and-tested ideas to provide the right opportunities to help youth make positive choices and reach their full potential.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To mark the website launch, YouthREX is releasing \u201cBeyond Measure: Evaluation and Action in Ontario\u2019s Youth Sector,\u201d a research report that includes a survey of more 200 participants and key informant interviews with 60 youth workers from across Ontario.
