ACTION REQUIRED: Residence Update, March 17, 2020

With a provincial emergency declared this morning, the time to act is now.

We strongly advise residents that it is in their best interest to move out and return home (or make other arrangements). With classes online and in-person exams cancelled, students have no cause to remain in residence for academic purposes. The University is moving to “required services” by end of day on Thursday, so we are asking you to help us focus our resources on those students who are truly unable to leave.

If you DO NOT have extenuating circumstances, you are expected to leave by Friday, March 20. To expedite your move, you will receive $250 on top of the previously communicated prorated refund if you move out and return your keys by this date.

You must notify us about your plans no later than Wednesday, March 18 by completing the Changes to Your Housing Status Form.

If you DO have demonstrable extenuating circumstances, for example, international students who are unable to return home due to current government travel restrictions and no alternative accommodations, you may remain living on campus and you will be supported. Students permitted to remain should expect reduced services from Housing, Residence Life and food services and may be asked to relocate to another room.

As part of a national effort to slow the COVID-19 pandemic, we should all practice social distancing and avoid situations where groups of people can congregate. Communal living situations make this difficult. If you’re experiencing anxiety or stress, please reach out to Student Counselling & Development at 416-736-5297 or Good2Talk at 1-866-925-5454 or Text GOOD2TALKON to 686868.

Thank you for your cooperation,
