An update to the Founders Residence Community

An update to the Founders Residence Community

York University has been informed that a member of our campus community living in Founder’s Residence disclosed that they are exhibiting some symptoms similar to those of COVID -19. The case is neither presumptive nor confirmed as COVID-19 at this time.

This news may understandably be upsetting to the students who remain in Founders Residence and residence staff. We want to assure you that the health and safety of our campus community remains our number one priority. York has carefully planned for this scenario and we immediately notified Toronto Public Health to ensure the person is receiving the appropriate care and that proper precautions are being taken to minimize the risk of transmission, including contacting anyone else they believe may be at risk.

Students living in Founders Residence must now immediately self-isolate, monitor for symptoms and practice physical distancing to avoid any possible infection.

If you become ill, continue to self-isolate in your residence room and contact Toronto Public Health, Telehealth  Toll-free: 1-866-797-0000) or your doctor/medical clinic for direction immediately. Reach out to reslife@yorku.ca if you have questions.

If you’re experiencing anxiety or stress, please reach out to Student Counselling & Development at 416-736-5297 or visit the website https://counselling.students.yorku.ca/ to learn about remote access of services.

Out of respect for our students’ privacy, we will not be sharing further on the specifics of this case. We will continue to provide updates with relevant information. If deemed necessary, Public Health will follow up with individuals directly.

Please stay calm and well,
