Updated travel guidance for the York University Community

Updated travel guidance for the York University Community

Further to the guidance issued on March 14, the University has cancelled all international travel for University-sponsored or sanctioned1 international programs and related travel as well as all university-related business travel to countries outside of Canada until August 31, 2020.

Students affected have been and will be contacted directly and the University will work with them to determine how the University can help best meet their needs.

If you are a student who was planning to travel abroad for your thesis or dissertation research during this time, please contact the York International Office. We will work with you and with your supervisor and academic unit to minimize disruption to your research, if possible.

Further, the University is strongly advising all members of its community to avoid all non-essential travel at this time per the Government of Canada’s travel advisory. Please consult the Government of Canada’s COVID-19 travel advisory website for more information about international travel.

The University community’s safety and well-being is our utmost priority. It is not clear when the travel bans implemented by the Government of Canada will be fully removed or if there will be a gradual lifting of bans for select countries. It is also not clear when and how other countries will lift their travel restrictions and measures. Thus, it is prudent for us to continue these measures as per the Government of Canada and public health guidance.

For travellers arriving in Canada:
The Government of Canada has put in place emergency measures that require mandatory 14-day self-isolation for all persons entering Canada, even if they do not have COVID-19 symptoms. For questions related to international programs, travel and safety abroad, please contact goglobal@yorku.ca.

The University will be reviewing the impact on international programs for the Fall session, working with Faculties and international partners, and will provide an update as soon as we are able to do so.
