Masks are making it hard to recognize one another, research by Prof. Erez Freud reveals
How do masks impact our ability to recognize one another? Professor Erez Freud, a cognitive neuroscientist in the Faculty of Health’s Department of Psychology and York’s Centre for Vision Research, is researching face recognition during the COVID-19 pandemic. In a recently published study, Freud and co-authors revealed that masks reduce our ability to recognize one another’s faces by about 15 per cent. He spoke to the CBC’s Adrienne Arsenault, who took the test: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/covid-masks-face-recognition-perception-1.5901300
