Title - Executive Director – CUCCIO-CDPIUC
Organization – CUCCIO-CDPIUC
(hereafter referred to as CUCCIO) is the Canadian University Council of
CIO’s - Conseil des dirigeants principaux de l’information
des universités canadiennes. It was established in 2006 to serve
as the national voice for IT-related issues in Canadian universities
and to provide a forum for members to share ideas, best practices and
new technologies. CUCCIO presently has 43 member universities

Position Summary –
Reporting to the
President of CUCCIO and working on behalf of the Executive Committee
and the Board, this position is responsible for implementing the
various strategic initiatives, activities and administrative operations
of CUCCIO including:
- Vendor negotiations and relationships
- Benchmarking
- Professional Development
- External advocacy with Federal, Provincial and International ministries and agencies
- Developing relationships with research and networking organizations and consortia in Canada and internationally
- CUCCIO operational and project activities, e.g. edupass.ca
- Development of CUCCIO policies and their subsequent implementation
The Executive
Director will supervise a contracted administrative group, project
officers and consultants employed by CUCCIO and any other staff that
CUCCIO may retain/employ in the future. The position will also support
the chair of each of the CUCCIO Committees, SIG’s and Working
Groups and represent CUCCIO on various committees. The incumbent
will be an ex-officio non-voting member of the CUCCIO Executive and
Board.
The Executive
Director is expected to provide vision and leadership for the entire
organization and to stimulate long range planning initiatives
appropriate to the mandate and purposes of CUCCIO. The Executive
Director is also responsible for preparing and executing business plans
when approved by the CUCCIO Board.
Knowledge and Skills –
The successful
candidate will have demonstrated exceptional leadership in an
information technology organization. Experience working
within higher education and with government, research agencies and
professional organizations is highly desirable. The Executive
Director will have:
- Experience
in an information technology management role promoting innovation and
the alignment of ICT with business requirements.
- Experience in supporting a Board, Management Committee or similar committee structure.
- Significant
high level project leadership skills and demonstrated successful
project management experience, particularly with large, complex,
multi-year, cross-sectoral projects.
- Demonstrated experience in dealing with national and provincial government agencies and organisations.
- Extensive
management experience in senior roles, including governance, policy
formulation and implementation, strategic planning, management of
multiple projects, system planning, financial management and change
management.
- Highly
developed analytical and conceptual skills, with the ability to develop
creative solutions to complex problems in the context in which they
occur.
- Demonstrated experience in advocacy at a senior level, including powerful networking skills.
- A strong
ability to develop broad understanding of the key ICT issues facing the
higher education sector in Canada and internationally.
- Excellent
communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to
communicate and advocate at all levels on complex issues and the
ability to maintain effective working relationships with a range of
external and internal stakeholders.
- Demonstrated
ability to articulate complex technological problems to an audience
with varying degrees of ICT knowledge and understanding, and to present
complicated material clearly and effectively (including at conferences).
Experience and Qualifications –
A post-secondary
degree, preferably in business, information technology or a related
field, with
subsequent relevant experience, or a combination of relevant
experience, broad knowledge and industry training. A
well-qualified candidate will have a minimum of 7-10 years of
progressive experience in management and leadership capacity that
includes experience in an information
technology environment in a Canadian higher education or government.
Experience working with or within an industry association is an
asset.
Compensation –
Salary in the $115,000-125,000 range commensurate with experience, qualifications and location in Canada.
