Psychopathia Transsexualis Radio!

Toronto now has its own bi-weekly radio program by and for the transsexual Community.

Broadcasted on CIUT 89.5 FM, Canada's oldest and most powerful community radio station, the program provides its listeners with up-to-date transsexual news & information and in depth coverage of many issues pertaining to the lives, cultures, and political struggles of transsexual people. The show's name "PSYCHOPATHIA TRANSSEXUALIS" is a reclaimed from David O' Cauldwell's 1949 article (with the same title) which introduced the term "transsexual" into medical literature. The program's format includes interviews with writers, activists, and artists, book/ film reviews, round table discussions, and features music created by transsexual artists.

PSYCHOPATHIA TRANSSEXUALIS is produced and hosted by transsexual writer and activist Xanthra Mackay. Xanthra Mackay has been involved in transsexual politics since the early 90's. She was the creator of "gendertrash" a radically different political zine for the transsexual community in 1992. She co-created "gendertroublemakers" (1993), a video which explored two transsexual women's sexualities on their own terms.

Xanthra Mackay has been involved with COUNTING PAST 2, Toronto's annual multi-disciplinary transsexual art festival and is a volunteer at MEAL-TRANS, a weekly meal and resource drop-in for low income and street-active transsexual and transgendered people at the 519 Church Street Community Centre.

Her most recent video "Rupert Remembers" (1999) documents a transsexual man's remembrance of transsexual activism and spaces in Toronto in the 70's and the 80's. PSYCHOPATHIA TRANSSEXUALIS: Transsexual News, Information, and Culture is broadcasted on CIUT 89.5 FM on alternate Mondays beginning November 22 from 11AM- 12noon.
