Project Summary

The Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways aims to redevelop a series of three intersections along Highway 11 to support construction vehicles during maintenance while reducing the number of collisions. Our team computed new embankment and drainage designs. These designs were used to create the new flexible pavement design. A 9-m wide embankment with a flexible pavement structure and a bioswale drainage design was chosen. Three new geometric designs for the interchanges were analyzed. By considering outputs from a microsimulation model, AutoTURN analysis, a safety surrogate assessment model, and the cost-benefit analysis of each design, an Unconventional Median U-turn intersection was chosen.
