{"id":516,"date":"2021-01-26T15:43:22","date_gmt":"2021-01-26T20:43:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/cfrdev\/?page_id=516"},"modified":"2021-01-26T15:43:22","modified_gmt":"2021-01-26T20:43:22","slug":"2009-2014","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/cfr\/2009-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"2009 - 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Director: Enakshi Dua<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Dua is an associate professor in the School of Women\u2019s Studies at York University.&nbsp; She teaches feminist theory, antiracist feminist theory, postcolonial studies, development studies, and globalization. She is the co-editor of&nbsp;<em>Scratching the Surface: Canadian Antiracist Feminist Thought<\/em>.&nbsp; One of her current research projects focuses on the historical construction of the categories of nation, race, and gender in Canada.&nbsp; Other research includes immigration processes, women and health, equity policies, criminalization, and the racialization of masculinity and femininity, globalization, and biodiversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the guidance of Dr. Dua, the Centre has continued its legacy as a house for a great many projects.&nbsp; During the&nbsp;<strong>2009-2010&nbsp;<\/strong>academic year some of the projects housed at CFR included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Women\u2019s Human Rights, Macroeconomics and Policy Choice;<\/li><li>\"Worked to Death\": Gendered-Racialized Dimensions of Economic Security for Later Life Canadians;<\/li><li>Negotiating Sexualities: A Study of Youth and Development in Guyana;<\/li><li>Transnational Migration Trajectories of Immigrant Women Professionals in Canada;<\/li><li>Racialization, Racism and the University;<\/li><li>Rethinking Feminist Interventions in Urban Studies;<\/li><li>Sharing Our Legacy: Indigenous-African Relations Across the Americas; Memory and Memorialization;<\/li><li>Race and Minority Studies in Canadian Higher Education: The Case of Asian Canadian Studies; and<\/li><li>Sharing Feminist Research on Social Policies and Collective.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Research clusters were also established in Gender and Public Policy, Interdisciplinary Asian-Canadian Studies, and the Childhood Studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to these projects, CFR also organized two large colloquiums:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Doing Theory: Marxism, Feminism, Critical Race Theory\u00a0in honor of Professor Himani Bannerji; and<\/li><li>Excavations, Collusions, and Contestations: A Symposium on Violence, Memory, and Memorialization.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>During this period, the Centre also had the privilege of hosting many scholars including Katja Kahlina from Central European University and Jin Haritaworn from Gender Institute London School of Economics and Political Science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the&nbsp;<strong>2010-2011&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong>school year, we continued to support several research clusters such as the Gender and Public Policy, Interdisciplinary Asian-Canadian Studies and the Childhood Studies research clusters.&nbsp; Additionally, CFR established two new research clusters: a Memory Reading Group; and Feminist Cultural Production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This period also saw the continuance and development of several research projects:&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/cfr.info.yorku.ca\/envisioning-global-lgbt-human-rights\/\">Envisioning Global LGBT Human Rights<\/a>; Sharing Our Legacy: Indigenous-African Relations Across the Americas; Women\u2019s Human Rights, Macroeconomics and Policy Choice; Rethinking Feminist Interventions in Urban Studies; Racialization, Racism and the University; Transnational Migration Trajectories of Immigrant Women Professionals in Canada; \"Worked to Death\": Gendered-Racialized Dimensions of Economic Security for Later Life Canadians; and Negotiating Sexualities: A Study of Youth and Development in Guyana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As in previous years, the CFR was honoured to support several visiting scholars including: Jin Haritaworn (London School of Economics and Political Science); Louise Johnson (Deakon University, Australia); and Anne Runyan (University of Cincinnati).&nbsp; The CFR also hosted an international post-doctoral student, Francesca Mailoi (Italy), and an international undergraduate student, Ximena Ureta (Uruguay).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under Dr. Dua's leadership, the Centre for Feminist Research continued to deepen conversations about theory, activism, and social justice through a variety of activities and events, including, but not limited to, symposiums, conferences, and panel discussions during the&nbsp;<strong>2012-2013<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>2013-2014<\/strong>&nbsp;academic years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Director: Enakshi Dua Dr. Dua is an associate professor in the School of Women\u2019s Studies at York University.&nbsp; She teaches feminist theory, antiracist feminist theory, postcolonial studies, development studies, and globalization.
