On February 7th, 2020 the CITY Institute hosted its fifth CITY Seminar. The talk, "Racialization and Financialization of the Housing Market," was given by Dr. Nemoy Lewis, a Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto under the supervision of Deb Cowan in the Department of Geography. Dr. Lewis's talk focussed on his current Postdoctoral Research where he explores the growing affordability problems impacting renters in racialized communities since the financialization of the rental markets in Canada and the United States.

Dr. Nemoy Lewis received both his BA and MA degree in Geography from the University of Toronto. Dr. Lewis earned his doctoral degree in Human Geography from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario in 2018. For his doctoral research, Dr. Lewis analyzed the ongoing foreclosures crisis in the United States and how it has affected the lives of racialized people and low-income communities in Chicago, Illinois and Jacksonville, Florida.
