Strategic Research Project Funded by

Social Research Council of Canada (2002-2005)

This project analyzes the relation ship between:

  • Transnational practices and institutions (including initiatives led by home states and parties, as well as migrant groups),

  • Canadian policies, institutions and organizations, and

  • social, economic and political modes of incorporation in Canada.

This project will provide a comparative analysis of groups whose displacement was prompted by political upheaval and violence. Newcomer incorporation will be approached from "transnational" perspective, recognizing that incorporation is a complex social process that does not preclude, and may be accompanied by, the maintenance of social, economic, and political ties with homeland.
