Candidates Spring 2022

President

Gemner Sandoval

Hey Dragons! My name is Gemner, pronouns he/they and I am running to be your BCC President for the 2022-2023 year. In my three years at York University, I have been an active member of our community and this council. I have learned so much throughout my term as Executive Vice-President this year that I know I would be an excellent candidate as President. Check out my social media @soygemner for more information on my campaign! Make sure to vote March 23rd - 27th.

Arman Sadr

Hey my name is Arman Sadr (he/him) and I am a 4th year student and have been involved in Bethune since my first year as a froshie. I have been involved in the BCC for the last 3 years in various different positions and I am running for president to help strengthen and grow the Bethune community. A few of my main goals would be to help expand what Bethune has to offer in a way that all constituents can benefit from something the college has to offer. I would like to maximize the changes I have proposed to our constitution this academic year to help connect the athletics, clubs, Lassonde, and online communities along with other colleges to build a strong student foundation. I am to do this by leading the BCC to be the core of the Bethune community and everything it has to offer.

Executive Vice President

Masood Syed

I started getting involved in the Bethune College Council in my second year as a General Member. I had the great pleasure of planning and executing social events for the Bethune constituents, which allowed me to connect with constituents, make friends, as well as make decisions that impacted the whole community. I had the opportunity to be a part of and work with the Socials, Promotions and Advertisement (BPAC), and the Finance Committee. I also was a part of the Bethune Athletic Committee as a Director of Promotions for 2021-2022.

Being a part of all these committees gave me important understanding of the different levels of Council and the internal operations. Since a big role of the Executive Vice-President is maintaining internal relations and operations of the Bethune College Council, I would be a perfect fit for the position.

Amran Adam

Hey Bethune Dragons! My name is Amran (she/her) and I'm running for the position of Executive Vice-President. With students coming back to campus and taking on in-person classes, the pandemic has definitely made socializing quite different. With being part of the BCC the past year, I've been lucky enough to experience that sense of community firsthand and want to reciprocate that feeling onto our constituents. I want to be the friendly face that's offering you support and listening to your concerns as we continue to build the best memories of our time here.

Vice-President, Athletics

John-Paul Gagliano-Veiga

We are Hassan Khan (He/Him) and John-Paul Gagliano-Veiga (He/Him) and we are running as your 2022/2023 VP athletics. We have a long history of experience being on the Bethune Athletic Committee (BAC). On BAC this past term we were the director of Operations and Communications, while overseeing Bethune intramural sports teams. We have had a love of sports and competition our whole lives, and through intramural sports, we have not only been able to partake but also have the opportunity to improve sports at our college.
We hope you elect us back on BAC!

Commuter Directors

Issay Amaha

We are Abisan Buvanendran and Issay Amaha and we are running to be YOUR commuter directors. We want to provide commuters with a safe and inclusive environment at Bethune. We will plan fun events to enhance your time between and after classes before commuting home. By being active in Bethune, we have been able to form strong friendships and memories. We want to be able to give commuting students the same opportunity, so you don't feel like you're missing out on campus life. Can't wait to see y'all in the JCR/JACS rooms.

General Members

Ernest Gasparyan

I want to help in driving a change in our college. The main goal for me is to help to put the college in a better position from when I first came to when I graduate. Every member makes a small difference and I hope to be one of the general members in the upcoming council to put forth a small change to a greater purpose. I want to be there as a support system to other members of the college and the council and work cooperatively with everyone on any goals we must achieve.

Brook Hann

In my first year at York University I participated in the Bethune Frosh Week events and got involved in the community. This provided me with an exciting and inspiring experience which led to my term as Bethune College Council First Year Representative for the 2021-2022 term. In this position I helped with the planning and execution of events for council and constituents. I also had the pleasure of representing the Bethune community's interests by voting on important motions that impacted the community as a whole.

Furthermore, I hold a position on the Bethune Athletic Committee as a General Member helping out the committee with various tasks for athletics. I also participated on 13 intramural teams this year for Bethune, playing with and meeting many Bethune constituents and making meaningful connections.

These experiences helped me understand how the Bethune College Council works. It prepared me to run for the position of General Member and be your representative for the 2022-2023 academic year.

Maahum Imran

We have all lost lots of time to the pandemic and lost school spirit due to online school. I want to use this position as a chance to become involved within the school and create events that will bring joy into our student lives. At the same time, I also want to establish an inclusive, fun and safe environment for all students that will make everyone feel welcomed and bring excitement into stressful school schedules. I will use this position to ensure students feel warmly invited and truly a part of Bethune.

Farid Musavinejad

I want to be more involved within the college, in this position I can learn from peers about bethune and its people, as well as I can make an impact and make a difference where it counts.

Glory Ohikhena

A way to get involved on campus. And help out to the best of knowledge.

Aydn Sadr

I want to run for this position because I want to be more involved in Bethune and be able to have a positive impact on the college. I'm a first-year student that has spent a lot of time on campus meeting new people and getting involved in many social events. I also play many intramurals for the college and I think that this position can help me learn new things and get new people more involved in college activities.

Dev Vyas

I want to get involved with the college and further extend my roles and responsibilities as a student of bethune college and earn experience

Lassonde Representative

Pedro Gonzalez

Having been an Ombudsperson and a Mentorship Director for the Lassonde Engineering Society, I find that I am very well connected in Lassonde and very aware of student issues and complaints. I conveyed the complaints of students on many occasions and conducted surveys on student feedback.

Heet Narechania

As a First-year student myself, I am excited about the opportunity to encourage the participation of such students
at both BCC and community events.
When needed, I will also assist the peers and members of the community.
