SUMMARY:Workshop: Drag Across Borders - Exploring Identity Through Performance
DESCRIPTION:\nThis community outreach workshop invites 2SLGBTQIA+ newcomers, refugees, and allies to explore questions of identity and belonging through the medium of drag performance.\n\n\n\nMobilizing findings from the PhD study of Paulie McDermid (Education, York University) on the experiences of refugee/migrant drag artists, the workshop features artists from the study performing and speaking about the importance of their drag creations for their identities and experiences of refuge/migration. Attendees at the workshop will be invited to reflect on and share with others the importance of their own intersectional newcomer/refugee experiences to their self-making. \n\n\n\nRegistration required: places are limited. Lunch, Presto tickets, and gift cards provided for registered attendees.\n\n\n\nDate: Friday, September 22\n\n\n\nTime: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM\n\n\n\nVenue: The 519 community centre on Church Street, Toronto\n\n\n\n(REGISTER HERE ( https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdpsTibvj1RrlDgHYM2lVxBYKBv6qfy9xTbD0KmkHeVwThlTA/viewform?pli=1 ))\n\n\n\nThe “Drag Across Borders” workshop is generously sponsored by OCASI’s Positive Spaces Initiative, the Centre for Refugee Studies, and the Office of the Vice-President Research & Innovation at York University.\n\n\n\nThis workshop counts towards the fulfilment of the CRS Certificate and Diploma Programs\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
