THE LABOUR EDUCATION AND TRAINING RESEARCH NETWORK

Call for Book Proposals

Deadline: March 1, 2000

As part of its dissemination strategy, the Labour Education and Training Research Network aims to publish books of collected articles by Network members and other researchers in fields relevant to the research objectives of the Network. In aid of this objective, the Network is prepared to provide funds to qualified Network members for up to two books in the year 2000-2001. It is inviting Network members to submit book proposals. The deadline for proposals is March 1, 2000. A similar call for proposals is anticipated for next year.

Funding for publications:

• Applicants may request funding according to the following categories:
i) subsidies to publishers for marketing and production costs (to substitute for or to supplement the Aid to Scholarly Publications Program of the Humanities and Social Sciences Federation);
ii) expenses to facilitate the editorial process.
• The maximum Network grant for publication in either category will be $7000;• The Editorial Sub-Committee of the Executive will evaluate proposals and decide upon funding for book projects.

Project selection and funding criteria:

The publishing programme of the Network is intended in part to disseminate the research results of projects sponsored by the Network. Books should include suitable articles from research projects supported by the Network or other relevant research by Network members. Nevertheless, it is expected that editors will solicit articles from authors whose contributions will complement those of Network members.

The Editorial Committee sees a potential for three books based on work done by Network members to date. Without limiting or precluding proposals on other themes, their themes may be listed roughly as:

• Access and Equity
• Training in International Perspective
• The Political Economy of Training Provision in Canada
Proposals will be reviewed by the Editorial sub-committee of the Executive Committee. Proposals will be evaluated on the following criteria:
• Thematic coherence and intellectual contribution of articles to be included;
• Importance and relevance to policy debates and Network objectives;
• Qualifications of editors and contributors.
The Editorial Committee will limit its responses to three categories:
• Accepted;
• Accepted with revisions;
• Rejected: Appeals will not be accepted but applicants may resubmit the following year (comments will be provided to assist preparation of resubmissions).
Funds allocated for editorial expenses will be disbursed to the institution of the primary editor; funds allocated for publication subsidies will be retained for transfer to the publisher on successful completion of the book manuscript.

All research and publications funded by this Network must acknowledge the support of The Labour Education and Training Research Network and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.

Copyright to contributions in books is retained by the publisher.
