Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Director of the Centre for Refugee Studies for a term of five years, to begin on 1 July 2026.

ORU Description and History:

The Centre for Refugee Studies at York is an interdisciplinary community of researchers dedicated to advancing the well-being of refugees and others displaced by violence, persecution, human rights abuses, and environmental degradation through innovative research, education and policy engagement. Since its inception in 1988, CRS has been recognized as an international leader in the creation, mobilization and dissemination of new knowledge that addresses forced migration and other forms of human displacement in local, national and global contexts. The general nature of the research program at CRS is twofold: (1) Enhancing the rights and well-being of refugees and other displaced people through research, education and knowledge mobilization; (2) improving critical understandings of unprecedented and ever-increasing human displacement, and rapid shifts in responses, and advancing evidence-informed policy and practice in Canada and abroad.

Position Requirements:

Applicants are expected to be members of the full-time faculty at York University, and to have a distinguished record of scholarship and research interests. The Director is expected to administer the financial, organizational and academic and collegial activities of the ORU, to develop external funding sources, and to maintain an active individual and collaborative research program.

Stipend:

The successful applicant will receive an administrative stipend and the appropriate course load reduction as stipulated by the YUFA Collective Agreement or the OHFA Collective Agreement. The Director of the Centre reports to the Associate Vice-President Research.
