Seminar - Exploring planetary health: issues, actors, institutions
December 3 @ 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm
This special event is part of a closing lecture for the graduate course PHIL 6505: Major Problems of Political Philosophy, led by Dahdaleh Institute faculty member Idil Boran. The event will be exploring Planetary Health and showcase team projects led by graduate students and will also include a keynote lecture by Dahdaleh Institute Director Dr. James Orbinski.
The COVID-19 pandemic has been a reminder of what was known but inadequately acknowledged: global societal challenges are intertwined and need to be tackled simultaneously, and there is no substitute to good governance based on values. The compounding global crises challenge canonical approaches to governance, actors, and issues of equity. In this graduate seminar, graduate students teamed up to work on joint projects on three focus areas under planetary health:
- Cities, human and and animal health, and adaptation to climate impacts: new perspectives on governance
- Food systems, agriculture, land use: integrated approaches to health and equity
- Energy justice, energy democracy: critical exploration of the food, water, energy nexus
