GEHLab Interns Present Oral Presentations at Undergraduate Summer Research Conference 2025 at York University 

Global and Environmental Health Lab interns Hefot Ahmed and Amoian S. F. Kouatin, skillfully guided by Dr. Godfred Boateng at the Dahdaleh Institute for Global Health Research, showcased their groundbreaking research at the 2025 Undergraduate Summer Research Conference, held on August 13 at York University. The conference attracted a diverse audience of faculty members and undergraduate students from various departments within the Faculty of Health, all eager to engage in a vibrant exchange of ideas. This event presented a unique opportunity for aspiring health researchers to immerse themselves in knowledge mobilization, translation, and invaluable networking activities. 

Hefot Ahmed, who has recently accepted an offer for a Master's in Health Policy and Management, delivered an insightful presentation on "The Moderating Role of Physical Activity on the Relationship Between Household Energy Poverty and Insomnia Among People Living with HIV in Kenya."

He expressed his heartfelt gratitude, stating, "I am genuinely thankful for the opportunity to present my work before such a distinguished group of peers and faculty. To the best of our knowledge, no prior research has explored the connection between household energy poverty and insomnia among people living with HIV. I would like to take this opportunity to extend my deepest appreciation to Professor Godfred Boateng, Taslima Mamataz, and all my colleagues in the Global Environmental Health Lab who supported and guided me throughout the preparation for this conference." 

Amoian S.F. Kouatin, an intern at the Global and Environmental Lab, recently concluded her transformative journey by presenting at the Undergraduate Summer Research Conference at York University. She delivered an insightful paper titled “Anxiety Mediates the Relationship Between Household Food Insecurity and Sleep Disorders.”

Reflecting on her experience, she shared, “Although it was nerve-wracking, standing before an audience to present something I poured my heart into was truly exhilarating. I am deeply grateful for the invaluable opportunities this internship has afforded me, and I will treasure this experience for a lifetime. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Professor Dr. Godfred Boateng for his unwavering support, as well as to Dr. Taslima Mamataz, Hefot Ahmed, and Radhika Jain for their incredible guidance and encouragement throughout this incredible but brief journey.”
