We are thrilled to announce that HEATSCAPE-Africa, a groundbreaking research initiative spanning Ghana, Zimbabwe, the United Kingdom, and Canada, has been awarded a major grant by the Wellcome Trust under its Climate and Mental Health funding stream.
Led by Dahdaleh Institute faculty fellows Benedict Weobong and Godfred Boateng (co-Principal Applicant), this ambitious collaboration brings together global high-calibre expertise and a consortium of institutions including the Navrongo Health Research Centre and Kintampo Health Research Centre (Ghana), Kgotso Development Trust (Zimbabwe), the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (UK), and the Dahdaleh Institute for Global Health Research (Canada).
Special recognition goes to Nilanjana Ganguli, whose expertise and dedication as the grant writer played a pivotal role in shaping and securing this award.
HEATSCAPE-Africa aims to uncover how climate-induced heat exposure contributes to depression and anxiety, focusing on two under-researched but climate-vulnerable contexts: Ghana and Zimbabwe (a low-income country.
HEATSCAPE-Africa represents a transdisciplinary, cross-continental effort to address one of the most urgent and under-researched public health challenges of our time.
