Akeza Awealom Asgedom is an Environmental Public Health researcher with extensive academic, research, and community engagement experience in Ethiopia. He obtained his BSc and MSc degrees in Environmental Health in Ethiopia and earned his PhD from the University of Bergen in Norway.
Dr. Asgedom has served as a Lecturer and Researcher in Environmental Public Health at Mekelle University, Wollo University, and Addis Ababa University.
Throughout his academic career, he has taught a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate public health courses, supervised numerous student research projects, and actively contributed to community engagement and service initiatives. His research and professional interests include environmental public health, occupational health and safety, infection prevention and control (IPC), water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), antimicrobial resistance (AMR), One Health, and health issues related to conflict and humanitarian emergencies.
Dr. Asgedom has led multiple research initiatives, mentored graduate students, and published more than 40 peer-reviewed articles in international scientific journals. He has also presented his research at national and international conferences in public health.
In addition to his academic contributions, he served as Head of the School of Public Health at Mekelle University. He has also been actively involved in professional associations and has founded and volunteered with several civil society organizations dedicated to advancing public health and community development.
His work reflects a strong commitment to addressing public health challenges in fragile and conflict-affected settings and contributing to global efforts that promote health equity, humanitarian response, and resilient health systems.
