About the Project
BioCAM4 is a multi-year, international research project focused on climate action, biodiversity, and environmental governance. The project places strong emphasis on training, team-based learning, and professional research practices in an institutional setting.
This role is designed for an undergraduate student seeking structured research and communications training within a collaborative team environment.
Role Overview
The Graphic Design & Communications Assistant supports the communication, knowledge mobilization, and dissemination activities of the BioCAM4 project. The role combines creative production, research support, and team-based coordination.
The successful candidate will work closely with the project leadership and team, and participate fully in the project’s structured training and governance practices.
Key Responsibilities
The Assistant will:
- Support the communication and dissemination of the BioCAM4 project
- Assist with the coordination of project-related events
- Contribute to the development of video scripts for social media, the project website, and other dissemination platforms
- Design illustrations, graphics, and visual elements for infographics, social media posts, and other communication outputs (e.g., LinkedIn)
- Support the writing and editing of blogs, briefs, and other communication materials
- Coordinate communication outputs and present progress and deliverables to the team
Research & Knowledge Mobilization Activities
The student will be engaged in:
- Gathering data from:
- multilateral environmental agreements
- international and domestic policy documents
- research organizations and project partners
- media sources
- Writing and editing video scripts that translate research findings into accessible formats
- Learning knowledge mobilization practices, including:
- summarizing research in plain language
- adapting content for non-academic professional audiences
- integrating graphical and visual elements
- Researching best practices in research communication to inform the creation of engaging videos and social media content
Qualifications
Required
- Current undergraduate student at York University (students from diverse programs encouraged)
- Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills
- Demonstrated organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to work reliably within a structured team environment
- Demonstrated willingness to:
- follow shared systems and processes
- meet regular deadlines
- communicate clearly and professionally
Assets
- Skills in graphic design, video editing, or animation
- Experience with:
- Office 365 applications
- spreadsheets, shared documents, and structured filing systems
- WordPress and/or social media platforms
- Interest in environmental governance, planetary health, global health, or global governance
- Familiarity with research methods (qualitative, quantitative, or integrative)
- Experience working in team-based research or project environments
- Strong analytical skills for organizing and categorizing complex information
Expectations (Essential)
This role requires the ability to meet project expectations:
- Attend weekly standing meetings in person at the Dahdaleh Institute
- Participate in onboarding and training sessions
- Use and support the project’s task allocation, progress tracking, and delivery systems
- Complete assigned tasks on time and to standard
- Report weekly hours accurately
- Engage professionally and constructively with team members and supervisors
