Dear DI researchers,
York University is tracking the ongoing developments related to U.S. Federal research funds and sub awards (i.e. NIH, Department of Energy, DARPA, NSF etc). The current status of these programs is unclear. As you may be aware, the U.S. President’s Office o Management and Budget (OMB) issued a memo (OMB Memo M-25-13) requiring Federal agencies to review all Federal financial assistance programs and temporarily pause disbursement of all Federal financial assistance. While the OMB has since rescinded the OMB Memo, subsequent statements from the White House indicated the federal funding freeze was still in place. This recent activity underscores the uncertainty regarding the U.S. federal funding system, including funds flowing to Canada from those agencies either directly or indirectly through third party sub-grants and sub-agreements. It remains unclear whether a Federal funding freeze will come back in another form or manner.
We advise those with active U.S. federal funding to be prepared for continued funding interruptions, and those with active applications to expect delays. Principal Investigators are encouraged to sign up for agency or sponsor alerts, if available. We are working with the Ontario Council of University Research (Ontario VPs Research) and other institutions to stay on top of all available information. VPRI will communicate with active grant holders directly as further information becomes available.
