Note: applicants must be eligible to participate in the Research @ York (RAY) program, see&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sfs.yorku.ca\/work-study-programs\/how-to-apply-for-ray-positions\">eligibility criteria<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hourly wage:<\/strong> $19 per hour<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hours per week:<\/strong> 15 hours per week<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Start date:<\/strong> September 3, 2024<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>End date:<\/strong> April 25, 2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Job description<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the supervision of Dr. Shital Desai and Rupsha Matsuddi, the RAY student will support the \"Task Analysis\" project (for up to 15 hours per week):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This project will explore how observation video data can be analysed using task analysis methods. Students will work on research data collected for a project on task sequencing for people with dementia. The student will then apply the methodology to analyze the data using Observer XT and report the finding qualitatively and quantitatively. The findings will be used to identify a pattern or trend in the behaviour of People with Dementia and their physiological signals, to determine when they lose track of the activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ideal applicant will be comfortable with an exploratory project that requires learning new material and overcoming unexpected obstacles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The successful applicant will think outside the box and participate in the exploration rather than rely on instructions from the supervisor and the project team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:18px\">Specific research activities the student(s) will be engaged in:<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>The successful candidate will work on the data analysis of qualitative eye-tracking data, and quantitative sensor data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The student will work on: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>learn the Observer XT software,<\/li><li>learn how to integrate sensor data into Observer.<\/li><li>learn how to thematically analyse data.<\/li><li>Code the data thematically.<\/li><li>Identify correlations in the qualitative and quantitative information.<\/li><li>Perform sequential analysis of the coded data.<\/li><li>Document the findings in a report which will include, an introduction and literature review on the topic: task sequencing.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The students will also work with Dr. Desai in writing a manuscript for CHI conference and a journal publication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\"><strong>Type of research experience the student(s) will receive:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Critical thinking<\/li><li>Qualitative and Quantitative analysis<\/li><li>Preparing presentations and written outputs of research; Editing and formatting drafts;<\/li><li>Professional communication skills<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\"><strong>Type of training and support that will be provided to the student(s) in carrying out these research activities:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Observe XT tool<\/li><li>Task Analysis<\/li><li>Thematic coding<\/li><li>Data analysis <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Qualifications<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Current undergraduate York student. Applicants from diverse programs of study are encouraged. WordPress editing skills are an asset. Social media communication skills are an asset.<\/li><li>Excellent interpersonal skills, including international and cross-cultural communication.
