The Safe Water Optimization Tool (SWOT) Project is a joint endeavour of the Dahdaleh Institute for Global Health Research (DIGHR) at York University and M\u00e9decins Sans Fronti\u00e8res (MSF) to build, pilot, and scale a machine learning-enabled web-based tool that will help humanitarian responders ensure that water is safe to drink in crisis zones around the world. The SWOT Project is seeking a part-time developer to support updates, enhancements, and maintaining the SWOT web application and website. Rate: <\/strong>$30\/hour + 4% vacation<\/p>\n

Hours: <\/strong>P\/T approximately 5 to 10 hours per week<\/p>\n

Start and End Dates: <\/strong>Feb 10, 2020 to May 11, 2020 (renewable)<\/p>\n

Basic Duties and Responsibilities<\/h3>\n
    \n
  • Code and test minor enhancements and updates to the SWOT web tool in collaboration with team of open source developers<\/li>\n
  • Update content on the project webpage<\/li>\n
  • Manage and query back-end databases and build reports<\/li>\n
  • User accounts and database management<\/li>\n
  • Managing DevOps platform<\/li>\n
  • Work effectively on project teams using agile development practices<\/li>\n
  • Create applications for extracting, transforming, and storing data from other APIs<\/li>\n
  • Demonstrate flexibility by acquiring new skills and taking on new tasks Attend team meetings<\/li>\n
  • Prepare reports and slide decks as required<\/li>\n
  • Stay in regular contact with supervisors and meet regularly to keep all parties informed.<\/li>\n
  • Complete other duties as assigned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Qualifications<\/h3>\n

    Education & Experience<\/h4>\n
      \n
    • Bachelors Degree or Equivalent in Computer Science or related field<\/li>\n
    • Prior experience with fullstack web software development using node.js, HTML\/CSS\/JS and either relational or nosql databases<\/li>\n
    • Experience with git, Linux, agile\/scrum and test-driven development<\/li>\n
    • Nice to haves: cloud computing (e.g. Azure, AWS), mongo DB, machine learning (using Python or R), Matlab or Octave, DevOps.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Skills & Qualifications<\/h4>\n
        \n
      • Excellent communication skills: professional email\/phone correspondence, presentation proficiency<\/li>\n
      • Experience working with people from a variety of backgrounds\/cultures<\/li>\n
      • Excellent computer skills (word processing, email, database management, spreadsheets)<\/li>\n
      • Demonstrates an eagerness to learn and take on initiative<\/li>\n
      • Interested in developing tech for humanitarian applications<\/li>\n
      • Demonstrates organizational and time management skills<\/li>\n
      • Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada<\/li>\n
      • Preference for candidates who are based in the Greater Toronto Area and are able to work on site and\/or attend regular meetings at DIGHR offices, York University Keele Campus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Supervision will be provided by Dr. Syed Imran Ali, DIGHR Fellow in Global Health and Humanitarianism. Some work may take place off-site with regular contact via email, phone, and IM applications (Slack).<\/p>\n
