On January 25-26, the Climate Adaptation Summit<\/a> takes place worldwide. Hosted by the Netherlands, this international online event hosts world leaders  and stakeholders. The highlight of the summit is the launch of the Adaptation Action Agenda<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0Adaptation Gap Report<\/a>\u00a0published by UNEP reveals that action by governments on adaptation is lagging woefully behind. One of the highlights of the report is the potential of nature-based solutions for adaptation.\u00a0Nature-based solutions is a broad concept that refers to a wide range of actions involving supporting and working with nature to contribute to environmental and social goals.\u00a0They are increasingly recognized for their potential to deliver simultaneous benefits for environmental and social wellbeing, and contribute to the realization of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0Synergies of Planetary Health Research Initiative & Lab<\/strong>\u00a0is supporting the Climate Adaptation Summit with a statement. Nature-based solutions have the potential to support coastal and marine ecosystems, and deliver simultaneous benefits for human culture, health, and well-being. If informed by sound ecology science and the needs of communities, nature-based solutions are invaluable assets to build resilience against the compounding impacts of climate change and biodiversity loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
