Go to <a href=\"http:\/\/careers.yorku.ca\/online-system\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">careers.yorku.ca\/online-system\/<\/a> and search for the posting with the Job ID (listed above).<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><strong>Hourly Wage:<\/strong> $16.25 per hour<\/p>\n<p><strong>Weekly Hours:<\/strong> 6.5 hours per week<\/p>\n<p><strong>Start Date:<\/strong> September 01, 2021<\/p>\n<p><strong>End Date:<\/strong> April 29, 2022<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h3>Job Description<\/h3>\n<p>Under the supervision of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.osgoode.yorku.ca\/faculty-and-staff\/bandopadhyay-saptarishi\/\">Dr. Saptarishi Bandopadhyay<\/a>, the War, environmental damage\/disasters, climate change, and forced migration RAY student will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Contribute to the research project designed to study the relationship between war, environmental damage\/disasters, climate change, and forced migration across two historical periods: 1850-1951, and 1951-present.<\/li>\n<li>The research will draw on historical archives, legal and social sciences and humanities literature, as well as scientific literature on climate change.<\/li>\n<li>Expected work products include: academic articles, AV presentations, public-facing essays, book reviews, grant applications, and a book proposal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Specific research activities the student(s) will be engaged in:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Gathering data on international migration, humanitarian conflict, and climate change.<\/li>\n<li>Compiling and cleaning quantitative and qualitative data in Excel, Word, and other software;<\/li>\n<li>Creating and maintaining a structured and annotated bibliographic review of existing literature organizing resources, projects, and individuals;<\/li>\n<li>Managing sources using reference management software.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in literature reviews and participate in the writing and editing of manuscripts summarizing research.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Type of research experience the student(s) will receive:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Close reading, critical thinking, and structured analysis of complex problems<\/li>\n<li>Conducting interdisciplinary literature reviews; Creating annotated bibliography; Tabulating data;<\/li>\n<li>Preparing presentations and written outputs of research; Editing and formatting drafts;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Type of training and support that will be provided to the student(s) in carrying out these research activities:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Methodological training on data analysis as needed<\/li>\n<li>Subject matter training on international law and refugee law<\/li>\n<li>Regular status meetings with supervising full-time faculty<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: inherit; font-size: 1.56em; font-weight: 600;\">Qualifications<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&nbsp;Current undergraduate York student. Applicants from diverse programs of study are encouraged. Skills and resourcefulness in drawing mind-maps and tabulating information is an asset.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated excellent organizational, note-taking, and time management skills.<\/li>\n<li>&nbsp;Demonstrated excellent communication skills: professional written and interactive correspondence, public speaking and presentation.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated an eagerness to learn, support, and take on initiative.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated excellent computer skills (word processing, email, database, spreadsheets, forms, and slides; facility with Office 365 Apps). WordPress editing skills are an asset. Social media communication skills are an asset.<\/li>\n<li>Excellent interpersonal skills, including international and cross-cultural communication.
