Go to the <a href=\"http:\/\/careers.yorku.ca\/online-system\/\">Career Centre portal<\/a> and search for the posting with the Job ID listed above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hourly wage:<\/strong> $20 per hour<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hours per week:<\/strong> 12 hours per week<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Start date:<\/strong> May 1, 2023<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>End date:<\/strong> September 1, 2023<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Job description<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the supervision of Dr. Poirier and the Global Strategy Lab's Public Health Institutions research team, the Public Health Institutions RAY student will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Support projects on public health policy and governance, including projects that compare the roles of senior public health officials internationally, examine the governance of global anti-microbial resistance, and investigate the role of scientific evidence in public health policymaking.<\/li><li>Conduct desk research, including statutory analyses, literature searches, and article summaries and syntheses.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>Attend and actively participate in Global Strategy Lab meetings and events.<\/li><li>Provide administrative and logistical support on research projects.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Specific research activities the student(s) will be engaged in:<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Gathering data from government agencies and public health organizations;&nbsp;<\/li><li>Reading and summarizing legislation and policy documents;<\/li><li>Searching for, summarizing, and synthesizing academic articles and grey literature;<\/li><li>Managing sources using reference management software;<\/li><li>Contributing to the writing and editing of manuscripts.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Type of research experience the student(s) will receive:<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Analytical and critical thinking;<\/li><li>Statutory analysis;&nbsp;<\/li><li>Literature review and synthesis;&nbsp;<\/li><li>Preparing presentations and written outputs of research;&nbsp;<\/li><li>Editing and formatting manuscript drafts;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>Professional communication as part of an interdisciplinary team<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Type of training and support that will be provided to the student(s) in carrying out these research activities:<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Subject matter training in public health policy and governance;<\/li><li>Methodological training in conducting statutory analyses and literature searches;<\/li><li>Training in academic writing, including how to prepare effective summaries, syntheses, presentations, and manuscripts;<\/li><li>Regular status meetings with an interdisciplinary project team.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Qualifications<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Current undergraduate York University student. <\/li><li>Demonstrated interest in public health, public policy, public administration, and\/or international relations.<\/li><li>Demonstrated knowledge of social science concepts, theories, and research methods.<\/li><li>Demonstrated skills, experience, and familiarity with conducting literature reviews.<\/li><li>Demonstrated analytic skills for understanding, sorting, and categorizing complex information.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>Effective interpersonal and communication skills.<\/li><li>Demonstrated computer skills (word processing, email, spreadsheets, forms, and slides; facility with Office 365 Apps).&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>Ability and willingness to work both independently and as part of a team with researchers, students, and staff.<\/li><li>Demonstrated eagerness to learn and take initiative.<\/li><li>Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants from diverse programs of study are encouraged.
