Student Update #6: Updates and Additional Resources for Students

With the continued labour disruption, we know you have been receiving a lot of information and still have many questions, particularly around course completion, as well as how the situation impacts your plans for finishing the term. You’re not alone – we’ve heard from many members of our community, and we hope the update below helps to provide more clarity. We are committed to continuing to keep you updated and to do what we can to help you navigate the impacts on your academics and plans.

Updates on Labour Negotiations

On March 24 and 25, the bargaining teams for York and CUPE 3903, Units 1, 2, and 3 resumed bargaining with the assistance of the provincially-appointed mediator. An agreement has not been achieved as of March 27, and the University wrote to CUPE to express concern. We will await further guidance from the mediator to let both parties know when bargaining can and should resume. More information and updates will be shared with you as soon as they become available.

Navigating Course Completion Options

A new Course Completion Resources page has launched with additional resources that can help you understand the options available, depending on whether your course has been continuing or is suspended, as well as important considerations that should be taken into account before making a decision, such as taking an assessed grade. You are encouraged to review these resources for additional guidance. We will continue to add more resources as they become available.

Assessed Grade Tool

As an update to the email sent to you last week (March 22), the online tool for opting into the assessed grade option is now available on the Course Status website. Please review the Course Completion Resources website for important considerations, including eligibility criteria, next steps on requesting assessed grades, and contact information.

Please continue to send questions to vpstudents@yorku.ca if they are not addressed by the above information. Additional resources and FAQs will be added on an ongoing basis to share necessary clarifications, informed by the inquiries received. As the situation evolves, we will be in touch with more updates and details.

As always, our student services are here to support you – if you need personal help, we encourage you to access well-being resources.
