SUMMARY:Journal for Research in Mathematics Education (JRME) Talks with Molade Osibodu & Colleagues on April 3 at Noon (ET)
DESCRIPTION:Please join us!\nJournal for Research in Mathematics Education (JRME) Talks with...\nMolade Osibodu, Sunghwan Byun, Victoria Hand, and Carlos LópezLeiva about "A Participatory Turn in Mathematics Education Research: Possibilities and Tensions" and a preview of their article forthcoming in our May 2023 issue\nMonday, April 3, 2023, 12 Noon Eastern (US) Time (17:00 GMT)\nRegister at bit.ly/JRMETalks ( https://u-m.catalog.instructure.com/browse/soe/grip/courses/jrmetalks ) to receive the link\nEveryone is welcome!\n\n\nAbstractMathematics education researchers concerned with justice and rehumanizing mathematics education are increasingly calling for research that takes seriously the values, commitments, and voices of the communities for which the research is most consequential. Exclusion of or superficial engagement with these perspectives and experiences in research and design processes have perpetuated deficit perspectives of minoritized communities, rendering them simply the object of reform efforts. Consequently, this Research Commentary conceptualizes a participatory turn in mathematics education research, offering a set of commitments that guide and examine the possibilities and tensions of such a turn.\n\n\nArchived webinars are available at https://bit.ly/JRMETalksCanvas\n\n
