The Concurrent Bachelor of Education program is designed for students who know they want to pursue a career in teaching. By combining your undergraduate studies with a pathway into teacher education, you can begin preparing for the profession early in your university experience.

As a Concurrent BEd student, you will:

• Work toward two York University degrees
• Study a subject area that aligns with your future teaching goals
• Gain the academic and professional preparation required for teacher certification in Ontario

• Progress from your undergraduate degree into the Bachelor of Education program once degree requirements are met

To be considered for the Concurrent BEd program students must be admitted to and eligible to continue in an undergraduate program in one of York University’s other Faculties:

• Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change
• Faculty of Education - BA Educational Studies *The BA (Educational Studies) does not lead to teacher certification
• Glendon
  • Glendon students who are preparing to teach French as a Second Language (FSL) in all teaching levels can apply to join the cohort that is held on Glendon campus. Students in this cohort may complete the FSL option.  
  • Glendon students who are preparing to teach subjects other than FSL can apply to the concurrent program that is offered on the Keele campus
• Health
• Lassonde School of Engineering
• Liberal Arts & Professional Studies
• School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design
• Science

While co-registered in the two Faculties, students' combined degree program is subject to the approval of the two Faculties. Students will complete their undergraduate degree first and then move into the Bachelor of Education program. Students are carefully selected on the basis of academic achievement, inclusiveness, experience and personal characteristics relevant to the teaching profession, as articulated in the application.

How to Apply

High School Applicants - Direct Entry to the BEd Program

• Current Ontario high school applicants apply through the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) UNDERGRAD. - Group A.  Applicants can select both the York faculty undergraduate program and Direct Entry BEd program with one OUAC code.
  • Students must submit their application for admissions to the OUAC by mid-January to be considered for this program.
  • Current high school applicants studying outside of Ontario (including out-of-province and international high school students) or students who have completed their high school diploma but have not attended a post-secondary institution need to apply through the OUAC. After applying through the OUAC UNERGRAD application and receiving a York reference number, applicants must submit the Faculty of Education Direct Entry Concurrent Form. Deadline to apply is February 1, 2027.
• Complete the Supplementary Information form and the Online Letter of Recommendation (LOR) - Deadline March 19, 2027
  • All BEd Direct Entry applicants are required to submit an online supplementary form which includes:
    • Experience profile
    • Personal statement
    • Two online letters of recommendation
    • Applicants for the Glendon Campus, Pre-Education French as a Second Language (OUAC code YGJ) are required to write a French Language Placement test through offered by Glendon or upload their DALF/DELF scores.  Instructions will be shared with applicants after applying to the program.
  • As well, all applicants who submit the online supplementary form will be required to pay a $50.00 non-refundable processing fee.
    • Information on the online supplementary information form and payment process will be available on MyFile when filling out the online supplementary form.

Please be advised that programs in the Faculty of Education, Concurrent BEd  are delivered on campus (Keele or Glendon). School placements can only be completed at partners school boards, which are located in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

All Direct Entry BEd applicants will receive an acknowledgement email from the Faculty of Education, Student Services with information and the steps to submitting the online supplementary form and online referees. Applicants to the Direct Entry model of the BEd who have submitted all required documents by the deadline date stated on MyFile and received an offer of admission to their faculty of choice will advance to the Education Admissions committee review.
