The Graduate Program in Education: Language, Culture & Teaching<\/strong> is internationally known for its interdisciplinary approach to engaging the most pressing educational research, ideas, and issues of our time. For over twenty-five years, the program has supported researchers, scholars and students to advance ground-breaking thinking, studies, and policies in education. Our Graduate faculty hail from many disciplinary backgrounds and support students to gain multiple theoretical, methodological, scholarly and practical approaches to educational ideas, practice, policy and research. Faculty and students working in the program have created, developed and contributed new and important understandings of literacies, knowledge, curriculum, pedagogy, cultural production, policy, environmental sustainability and social, political and humanistic thought in all areas of social formation and education. Our graduate students are leaders across the private and public education sectors and continue to make positive change in the field of education wherever they are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We offer both MEd and PhD students multiple and flexible pathways for study, scholarship, research and professional development. Along with offering various degree options, we support students to focus their studies through diploma programs that offer training and expertise in important areas of educational research and thought. The program also offers the Master in Leadership and Community Engagement (MLCE) designed to engage the ideas and work of community leaders in public sector and cultural education sites. These innovative and creative public outreach arrangements distinguish our graduate program from those conventionally found in Faculties of Education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program attracts students with diverse educational experiences, orientations, and methodologies to understanding education as occurring within and beyond the mandates of K-12 schooling. Our students engage education wherever learning, teaching and cultural production takes place. Faculty are committed to an understanding of education as a social good that works in service of justice, equity and creative freedom for learners across their lifetimes and social and political conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students in the program are curious, independent learners who commit to engaging the role of education in affecting and transforming themselves and society. Students will gain expansive, speculative and conventional understandings of education that push them to think of its rapidly changing provision and responsibilities in the time we live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
