{"id":14581,"date":"2017-01-27T10:23:15","date_gmt":"2017-01-27T15:23:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/edu.yorku.ca\/?p=14581"},"modified":"2017-01-27T10:23:15","modified_gmt":"2017-01-27T15:23:15","slug":"in-house-conference-showcases-research-in-the-faculty-of-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/edu\/2017\/01\/27\/in-house-conference-showcases-research-in-the-faculty-of-education\/","title":{"rendered":"In-house conference showcases research in the Faculty of Education"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-14582\" src=\"https:\/\/edu.yorku.ca\/files\/2017\/01\/P1050173-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Faculty mini-conference roundtable discussion\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/>An in-house research mini-conference organized and facilitated by the Associate Dean of Research and Community in the Faculty of Education, brought together faculty members to showcase their individual research projects and to discuss the innovative work they are engaged in.<\/p>\n<p>The half-day event entitled \u201cResearch Directions: Yours, Mine, Ours?\u201d which took place on Jan. 11, was also an opportunity to discuss research directions in the Faculty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis event not only enabled faculty members to learn about the range of topics their colleagues study, it also highlighted how projects that seem very different actually address some of the same themes,\u201d said Sue Winton, Associate Dean Research and Community. \u201cPersonally, I identified new possibilities for research collaborations as well as colleagues that can support my graduate students\u2019 research. I left feeling excited about the research taking place in our Faculty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-14583\" src=\"https:\/\/edu.yorku.ca\/files\/2017\/01\/P1050178-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Professors Warren Crichlow and Mario DiPaolantonio\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/>The day began with a panel presentation on the theme \u201cLearning from Traumatic Histories: Curatorial Controversies,\u201d which was then followed by a series of research snapshots on a diverse range of topics including policy advocacy, teacher education in refugee camps, discourses of teacher professionalism, literacy and technology, international students, and teaching and learning. A number of research projects addressed the themes of identity, truth and evidence, recovering history, and teaching and learning in schools.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s mini-conference offered an opportunity for us to get together as a Faculty to share and learn about some of the great research projects that our colleagues are engaged in,\u201d said Dean Lyndon Martin. \u201cThis event showcased the interdisciplinary research done within our Faculty and provided an opportunity to discuss the many ways that we can collaborate with each other to strengthen the culture of research in the Faculty of Education.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An in-house research mini-conference organized and facilitated by the Associate Dean of Research and Community in the Faculty of Education, brought together faculty members to showcase their individual research projects and to discuss the innovative work they are engaged in.
