Although she has grown up in a climate of assimilation within Canadian society, Rebecca Belmore has always been bound to her land of origin. But only in her maturity, through a process of evolution, she has fully understood the shades of her culture; and therefore the fundamental importance the nature has for her people and the whole humanity. Belmores strong attachment to the land that she inherited from her Ojibwa culture, motivates her as an artist and engages her with current issues. By addressing specific problems that relate to nature she gives a voice to the First Nations People who can address their message to Mother Earth through Belmores work. Every installation and art performance embodies the values of the aboriginal culture: the tight relationship to the landscape and the intimate, almost personal dialogue with nature.
